Moldova is a small, landlocked country in Eastern Europe that has been undergoing political and economic transition since its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Moldova has a population of about 2.7 million people.
Moldova has a civil law legal system with codified laws that govern different aspects of business, trade, and economy. This civil law legal system is quite different from the US system of common law, increasing barriers to cross-border trade in the absence of a Moldovan-trained legal expert.
Moldova’s recent and near-term GDP growth suggests tremendous opportunities for cross-border commerce. In the next 5 years, Moldova’s GDP is expected to almost double. Moldova's main trading partners are the European Union (EU), Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey.
Many Eastern European countries have experienced significant economic growth in recent years. Countries like Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, and Bulgaria have shown strong economic performance and attracted foreign investment. The region's growth is driven by factors such as skilled labor, competitive costs, improving infrastructure, and favorable business environments.
Eastern Europe serves as a bridge between Western Europe and Asia, making it a geographically strategic location for trade and investment. The region's proximity to major European markets offers access to a large consumer base, while its connections to emerging economies in Asia provide opportunities for trade and investment diversification.
